IT professionalism in Estonia

Todays topic is going to be about IT professionals in Estonia. As of now I am not yet a qualified IT professional, but I hope to be one day. In the past I had no clue as to what the actual job of an IT professional is so I had to ask around and here is what I learned.

I was told that if you want to work in IT you better get good at math, you better learn to be patient and you better be ready to work really hard for it. So that is exactly what I did and it seemed to work for me as I am now in the track of pursuing a career in the field of IT. I think that the journey does not have to be that hard or complicated any more. Because we are starting to give kids some basic IT training even from kindergarten. There are toys that are filled with electronics and that can help steer kids in the direction of IT should they have an interest in it.

I also feel like there are some people that do not care for the fast moving pace of technology. For example, there are still plenty of people out there who simply just do not care for IT. Sure they might turn on their TV, or read news from their computer and make phone calls and whatnot, but that is about it. They do not care what is going on in the backend of their computer or phone, all they care about is that it works. And if it were to break then they would go to a repair center to get it fixed. And that is where we get back to the IT professionals in Estonia.

The job of an IT professional can be seen as easy - the common perception is that you just sit there and click a couple of buttons, how hard can that be. In some cases it is true as your job is a lot of trial and error to get to the desired result. But more often than not some problems do require a certain level of technological knowledge. What I am trying to say is that sometimes the attitudes towards IT professionals are not that great, but I feel that is changing for the better as more and more jobs require and IT professional to be present.
